Indications for use
Ceftiozolamazol is a horse medication that was developed to treat severe and chronic diarrhea in horses.
Horse diarrhea is a common health issue, and treatments are always changing and developing as new drugs are developed. While some doctors still recommend ceftiozolamazol for this condition, it does not matter if your horse does not have clinical signs of the disorder!
This drug is only for horses that have mild to moderate intestinal distress, no change in appetite, and no other medical problems. It should not be used in cases of severe diarrhea or when the amount of stool is very low (below the level where it can be passed out via stomache).
Because this drug works so well at treating intestinal distress, it is usually used in combination with other drugs.
How to administer previcox
Previcox is a low-to-moderate dose anesthetic that is given to treat horse knockouts. It is also used as a preanesthetic medication to help relax horses before being operated on.
Like other anesthetics, previcox can be administered as a liquid, gel, or powder. Both syr and topical forms are available, but most equine owners use the syr form because it is cheaper.
The dosage of previcox that equines should receive is about one gram per 100 pounds of weight. This equals about one gram of drug for each horse!
Because of the potential for side effects with such a large dose, most veterinarians give two to four doses per day on an ongoing basis.
Possible side effects
