Prince died
He died at 56, leaving behind a legacy of music and fashion that will never be forgotten.
In 2013, he starred in the movie Purple Rain, which was about his transformation from musical artist to sociologist after his career as a star musician ended.
He also launched the Paisley Park health club and wellness center in Chanhassen, Minnesota, where people can learn how to stay fit by working out at Paisley Park or attending one of their classes.
A memorial service was held in Minneapolis on April 29, and Prince wore a purple paisley shirt at the memorial in memory of his music. He also wore purple shoes at the service to represent his new health club.
The paisley park opening ceremony featured music performances by Prince and other well-known musicians, so attendees were treated to a nice tribute to Prince at the opening ceremony.
The last episode of The Middle aired
The series ended in 2013 due to the success of The Goldbergs. The show focused on a poor family in the suburbs who strive to be financially stable, but not always easy.
The series was very social media oriented, especially with its Twitter and Facebook accounts. It was also very popular on TV+, meaning it was also televised, which is more popular still.
TV+ is a cable channel that is only available to pay services like HBO or Showtime, so it was not easy for the average family to watch it. It did well in terms of popularity though so maybe more families watched it than just one generation.
The series opened up doors for youth programming as well as television for the younger set.
Mariah Carey debuted her new single
Mariah Carey debuted her new single, The Metal Dead, at the 2013 Billboard Music Showcase. The song received very positive reviews and is poised to be a success.
The metal Dead was released as a single on October 28, 2013 and is the first single off of Mariah’s upcoming album. The song samples Madonna’s 1998 song “Vogue.”
The music video was released on November 6, 2013 and features Mariah wearing a gown with lots of interesting details on it and moving quickly around the room. It looks like she climbed up some scaffolds!
People are already talking about The Metal Dead, saying it sounds like something Bon Jovi would make. Some even say it sounds like Bon Jovi without their old style of music.
The Hunger Games premiered
The first movie to feature the epic teen dystopian novel series The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games premiered on November 22, 2013.
The movie follows a group of teenagers who must fight their way through a district ruled by territories and determined by children’s television program Game Show.
It is a trilogy with three movies, starting with 2012’s Rise of the Legend Loser and ending with 2014’s goodbye until Theogan.
The movies follow the same characters, as well as the television program, named X-games.
One Direction broke up
One Direction disbanded in 2013, ending one of the world’s biggest boy bands. As a teenager, One Direction captured the hearts of people around the world with their catchy songs and beautiful chemistry on stage.
After years as teenagers making everyone feel young, heading off to college and starting a new life, One Direction returned to popularity in 2014 with festive hits like “What Christmas Means to Me” and continued success this year with “Rudolph.”
The former stars have gone on to do other things, including one-day tours and TV shows, but we’re glad they kept performing!
2014 was definitely the year when One Direction disbanded, as both boys decided to take on new projects. Liam released an album This Is What You Want while Niall launched his own clothing line Nail It! He also returned to stage show appearances with Louis for another run of hits.
Beyonce dropped her self-titled album
Hundreds of people jumped on the release day opportunity to get the album as soon as it came out, which was February 12th. It was released for download only until then, so fans had to wait until then to enjoy all of the content.
The album was mainly composed by Pharrell Williams, whom Beyonce worked with before on her 2007 debut albumrisque. The majority of the songs were about love and marriage, which is pretty standard for a marriage album.
It did not have any rock or pop songs, which are usually staples on a marriage album. It also did not have any singles, which is also common for an unmarried couple’s album.
The formatting was different on each version of the album, making it more challenging for fans to tell what song they were listening to.
Kanye West debuted his fashion line at Paris Fashion Week
In 2013, Kanye West debuted his fashion line, D.A.M.E. (disability allowance music). The line consists of headbands, shirts, and pants with messages about disability rights printed on them.
The products were released through his online store and in retail stores under the brand D.A.M.E.. A number of celebrities have sported the products including Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and singers like Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj!
While some people did not appreciate the hidden politically-charged messages on the products, others loved how they made a meaningful statement while also being cute and fun to wear.
Charlie Hunnam quit Fifty Shades of Grey
Hunnam was a big reason why we loved Fifty Shades of Grey in 2013. He was terrifyingly handsome, he spoke English well, and his character Christian was interesting.
Then he left the show!
Many were shocked when Hunnam announced he would be leaving the show after only two episodes due to starring in The Winter Queen for two more episodes. This is a shame, as the world of television could have used more Christian and Anastasia!
Christian is one of my favorite characters on television right now, and I hope they return for a third season.
