Since she is made of iron, she does not rust as easily as other metals. This is why she has six large plating areas on her body to protect her from precipitation. She also has a special coating on her bottom to prevent water from getting inside her.
Because she is twelve feet tall, she requires special infrastructure to stand upon. Because of this, her sponsors have to pay for special support equipment. Many pay no cost because they are portrayed as highly historic or historic-related.
This includes support beams, a scaffolding for them to stand on, and an audience platform that can be removed if needed.

Number of steps to the top of the torch?
There’s a chance you didn’t know there was a step to the top of the Statue of Liberty torch. In fact, you could be missing out on something important!
The torch has six stages, and during each stage, someone has to wipe the torch with a cloth to signal the end of one phase and the start of another.
After each phase, the torch is passed back and forth for about a week, until it reaches its final pass at Christmastime.
During this time, people watch in anticipation as they wait for Christmas to come so they can light it!
Even if you don’t count watching it go up and down for six weeks before and after Christmas, you’d spend at least one hour a day on it just waiting!
The Statue of Liberty is over 120 years old now, so it must have had some hard times leading up to December.
