Congenital Macular Degeneration (CMD) is a leading cause of blindness in young adults. It occurs when the central nervous system (brain and nervous system) does not develop as expected, primarily in the area around the center of the brain that manages memory, emotion, and spatial memory.
The area that manages short-term memory does not develop fully until adulthood. Because short-term memory is how we remember details about past events, this can make it difficult to understand how common CMV is and what effects it may have.
More than half of people with CMV are aware of eye disease because it can be spotted easily. It usually occurs in people over 50, but persons younger than that can have it as well.

CMV positive plasma
When plasma is positive for CMV, it means that the CMV is in the blood, but it is not circulating.
Typically, plasma that is negative for CMV is in the urine or stool.
It may also be present in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (pb-PBMCs), which are a part of the immune system.
However, there are some cases where plasma is positive for both CMV and PBMCs. These cases include:

Can you get CMV from plasma?
Not even close. You can’t get CMV from a plasma transfusion, nor can you get CMV from a plasma donor.
It is the reverse-a-plasma-baptism that allows someone to become infected with CMV. A plasma transfusion is made by passing the patient’s blood through a specialeretureture called a red blood cell exchangevalve. The patient receives their own blood in its original container, however.
This procedure is very safe, as there are only a few cases where it has been done and it has worked. In addition, no one but the healthcare team knows what the patient received until they receive their own blood back.
What is chronic multifocal vitreous hemorrhage?
Vitreous hemorrhage, also called the grape juice eye, is a common condition seen in people over fifty. It occurs when the inner portion of the eye’s tissues fails to grow and/or mature as expected.
It can occur in young people as well, making it difficult to determine whether vitreous hemorrhage is primary (new growth) or secondary (old growth that has reoccured). Many times, this type of vitreous hemorrhage is not treated effectively due to a lack of diagnosis.
Primary vitreous hemorrhage occurs when new growth occurs into the back of the eye. New blood does not flow into and out of the eye like with secondary vitreocellulou s hemorrhage. This type must be treated with surgery in order to remove the bleeding material and prevent new growth from occurring again.
Secondary vitreocellular hemilrhagia occurs when new blood flow enters the eye but does not stay active. This type can be evaluated by seeing if it gets larger and moves around during sleep.
Symptoms of CMV negative blood
While blood traces of CMV are rare, it can be identified in many places. Due to its low amount in the blood, it is usually identified by tests.
Typically, the Blood Test for CMV is performed using a aloud-passaged-blood sample collected from your left arm or leg. TheVI+ limb-blood sample is typically used to confirm the negative test result.
If you have symptoms of CMV positive blood, such as fever and joint pain, you should consult your doctor immediately to rule out an allergic reaction. As with any new exposure, you should regularly check yourself for signs of infection and turnover, especially if traveling outside of the country or if you will be exposed to certain conditions such
to a short period of time.
By reducing your risk for secondary infections and determining when there is a response with your own health care team, treatment can begin immediately.
Causes of CMV negative blood
CMV is a very rare blood Virus that can be found in about 1 in 5,000 people. Most people do not have CMV negative blood in their family tree though!
Thankfully, most people are infected with it once in their lives, but there are two cases of CMV positive blood out of one million people. This means that if you have blood test results for CMV positive, you have less than one percent chance of having an uninfected CMV negative blood.
This is why it is so important to find a way to spread the infection to an uninfected person to prevent any complications.
How do you check for CMV?
There are a few ways to check for CMV. The most common way is to perform a coliform test. This test cannot tell you if a baby has CMV, but it can help determine if the baby is infected.
Another way to determine if your baby has CMV is through the newborn screening program. A blood test can confirm whether or not your baby has CMV infection.
If your baby does have CMV, an outpatient treatment with oral antiviral drugs is the only treatment.
Is my blood safe to give?
Blood is a precious fluid that comes from your body. It’s made of red, white, and hemoglobin (the substance found in Red Blood Cells) molecules that flow through the veins to help the body process and utilize its nutrients.
Despite this, there are times when blood can’t be given. For example, if you have an open wound that cannot be covered with a Band-Aid, or if there is significant blood in your stool or urine, you may have trouble processing nutrients from blood.
As mentioned earlier, Vitamin K is essential for processing blood and vitamin C is important for keeping it safe to give.
