It was a time when people tried to resolve differences with violence, and it tested the strength of both sides. Many historians believe that these tests were one of the main causes of the Civil War, and they continue to be an important part of American history.
Many things changed between now and then, how people thought, organized groups, social structures. There were huge changes in how people perceived themselves, their place in the world, and how they acted.

Economic differences
Economic differences were one of the main causes of the Civil War. Both North and South were very wealthy countries, and due to differences in income, politics became focused on how much money people had.
This was a problem for two reasons. One was that people with more money could fund political movements and policies that the lower-income citizens didn’t have access to. The other was that people with more money could not help rid the country of racial segregation, which wasn’t wanted by most people.
Money was a big factor in politics, as rich people could donate large amounts of it. It took a long time for enoughpeople to push through changes that would end segregation, because there were too many who wanted things to remain segregated. This made politics heavily influenced by donations.

In the United States, the debate over slavery began after the founding fathers decided to create a new government for their country. This created a huge push from one side of the political spectrum to create an end to slavery law, and another that it should be made illegal.
Regional differences
