Portable air conditioners are a very popular cooling option today. They can be plugged into any standard outlet and function as a portable AC unit. They are very easy to use and set up!
Using a portable air conditioner is a great way to save money by not spending money on a traditional AC unit. Instead, you are able to put this cooling tool in your room and running it every few days gives you sufficient cooled air.
Pull out the plug
If the air conditioner is not cooling your room or home well, then you need to pull out the plug.
Either through a wall outlet or from a portable unit, the air conditioner has a power source. This is why it needs to be connected to your home’s AC system for it to work.
When turning on the unit, make sure that the gap between the wires is large enough so that there is no risk of being cut. If there is a power cord, then cut that as well!
Once you do this, you can now reset your portable air conditioner! Simply touch Reset button on unit and that’s it! It will take about an hour for it to sync with your home’s AC system, so make sure you have plenty of time to let it settle in.
Hold the cool button
When the motor stops, it means you have reset your portable air conditioner. This can be confusing if you forgot to do it when the cooling mode stopped automatically.
To know if the portable air conditioner has memory or not, hold the cool button for a few seconds until it starts warming up. If it does this quickly, then it has memory!
If this happens, try using it again and see if the same thing happens. If so, congratulations! You have reset your portable air conditioner! Now try turning off and on again to see if that helps start cooling down again.
If not, then let’s talk about resets. There are some ways to reset your portable air conditioner so that it does not turn on every time you walk by it.
Hold the dry button
When your portable air conditioner has cooling power, you can hold the dry button for a few seconds to charge the unit. This allows your device to retain its power while drying your belongings.
This feature is important as if you have a lot of clothes or large items, then you need to let it work on this mode. It will take several tries to use this mode, but eventually you will!
You can also charge your mobile phone or tablet while the unit is in mode so you have internet access and control of the unit. This way you can check messages or updates from your coolers or fans!
Fun fact: A small percentage of people with airflow problems have found that wearing low-cut sweatshirts under their thermal underwear helps reduce heat loss.
Press and hold the on/off button
Once your air conditioner has cooled down, it needs to be reset. To do this, hold the on/off button for about five seconds and then let go of the button.
This pauses the motor and lets it reset. You can then plug it in and start using it again!
This process may seem complicated, but it helps to reset your air conditioner every so often. Over time, the motor will wear down and you will need to do this more frequently.
By doing this every few weeks, you will keep your air conditioner working well enough to help cool your house down quickly! This is also a good way to keep track of your unit as some companies include a charge for this service in their package.
While holding the on/off button, press the cool button twice
When the unit has cooled down, then holding the on/off button for two seconds will reset it back to cooling. This will keep your unit running until you plug it into a wall outlet or take it with you when you cool yourself.
This is due to its small battery that needs to be maintained. If you remove it while running, then later when you want to use it, you have to charge it again!
How to do this easily: Take off the cover by pulling up on the tabs at the bottom of the unit. Then, lift up the unit and remove the four screws underneath. Next, carefully pull up on the unit out of its housing to reset it.
While holding the on/off button, press the dry button twice
Once your air conditioner has cooled down, it needs to be reset. This process can be tricky if you have a second unit plugged in next to the first one.
To reset the portable air conditioner, first turn off the power supply by pressing and holding the on/off button for about a minute. Then, press and hold the dry button for about a minute until it starts blinking. Once it does, release the buttons quickly so that it can start operating.
To put it back in AC mode, press and hold the dry button for about a minute until it starts blinking again. Then release the buttons quickly so that it can start operating.
How to Reset Central AC System?
If your central AC system has problems or jams up, try these steps first.
Release the buttons when you see a bright light and hear a beep
If your portable air conditioner breaks and you do not want to pay for another one, then you should do the following after taking out the batteries.
Open the window a little bit so that some cool air can come in to reset the unit. This will take about a minute or two, depending on how fast you open and close the windows.
Re-set the unit by putting in new batteries and having them charge for about an hour before use. This will take a few tries, but eventually you will get it right. Once you do, you will be able to manually set the temperature and turn on/off the unit!
This process may sound complicated, but it is very important to do if your portable air conditioner has stopped working. You could cost thousands of dollars in cooling bills if this was what caused your unit to stop working.
Plug unit back in and turn back on
If your portable air conditioner has a power button, you can now turn it back on and off! After removing the power cord from the unit, pressing and holding the power button for about a minute will allow it to re-charge.
If there is a switch, turn it back on! If there is only one wire, wrap it with a paper towel to see if you can find the other end. Some models have a wire that does not need to be connected, and that is okay!
If you could not fix your unit in this step, then you are finished! Now go ahead and throw away your old unit because we are just starting out so let’s keep our units clean.
