Making a car dolly is an easy way to make a quick buck! All you need is some metal, some tools, and some paper. It is also a great way to learn how to do some repetitive tasks in Manufacturing and Production, such as making jigs or templates for your dolly.
Making a dolly is all about the patient initial start-up effort. You will have to mess with it a little before you can start moving it around, but after you do, you will have fun making your dolly spin, roll, and/or walk!
The most important part of making a car doll is the legs. They must be long enough to support the user in their seated position.

Remove the top of the box
Once your doll is static, you can begin to make her move. To do this, you must remove the top of the box she is in.
To do this, simply pull up on the handle and let it slide off of her. Then, reach in and pull out the handles and put them back in to place.
Now that she is able to move, you can start adding some detail to her. To add more movement, add some small dowels orв¦whatever works best as connective tissue. Or add a few weights or something heavy that can support her as she moves around.
Slide a cardboard tube over one of the car’s tires
Now build a slide system with two more cardboard tubes linked together, connected at the top by a hinge. This system should allow you to easily make a dolly out of these four pieces.
Build your dolly by sliding one piece under the next, moving it up and down as you please to change the angle of view.
Your new car doll can look amazing as you change her wheels, suspension, headgear, and anything else you want!
Making your doll requires some practice, so do not get discouraged if you do not perfectly shape each piece the first time. Just keep working on it and eventually you will get it!
Make sure to keep your car safe while making your doll! Your new car may be fun, but it is also mighty dangerous. Keep an eye out for warning signs for accidents like skid marks or damage to the tire surface.
Put that tire into the bottom of the box
Now put in the second tire, or in this case, the bottom of the box. This is where your dolly will have to stand on its own.
Put a bit of tape on the two sides of the bottom of the box to keep it from turning over. Make sure to leave some room for movement!
Put one end of the rope through a ring in the top of the box and then through another ring. Thread one end of the rope through this second ring and then through a third ring.
Pull hard to secure all four corners in place.
Put the other tire into the bottom of the box
When you have the car dolly done, you have to put the other tire into the bottom of the box. This is where your next project can come!
Now that your doll has a proper bottom, you can move on to putting in your wheels and driving it.
To make this piece more functional, add handles or a center support to hold up the box. Add sliders or release tabs to allow for easy rolling and removing.
Add some padding or fleece to protect your hands from hot metal and/or tires. Maybe add some safety features like guard rails or flooring to help prevent serious accidents.
Put the rest of the car into the bottom of the box
Once you have your bottom of the box, it is time to put the rest of the car into the box. You can do this by placing all of the parts of your car together or by separating them.
To separate the parts, you will need to cut two lengths of chain. One should be about four feet long and the other about six. Take a marker and write each chain on one end and draw a link on the other.
Put them both together and let them spell KERCHING! This is how you know that your dolly will be called KERCHING!
Then, take one end of each chain and sew them together at a right angle. You want to make sure they are sewn at an angle so that they can hang freely.
Wrap it in plastic wrap
Once your doll is complete, it is time to paint. You can do regular brush painting, airbrush, or the prosaic method of rolling up some paper and painting with that.

Use more cardboard tubes to reinforce corners

These second set of tubes should be used to reinforce the corners. When building the top, use two thick layers of cardboard cut into a square. One layer should be white, and one layer should be black. Then, fold each square in half, and put a round rod in the middle to make it shape.
Then, glue and tack down the two layers of cardboard together. This is important to keep as tight as possible so that you can use your dolly later!

Secure it to your vehicle with straps
When making your car dolly, the first step is to secure it to your vehicle with metal straps. You can use regular car dolly straps, but they can be difficult to remove should you want to make a change or remove the dolly.
These metal straps prevent your doll from moving around while you make your craft. It is also helpful when moving the dolly around in your vise to have the metal straps help support the bottom of the dolly.
Make sure to get enough strap length so that your doll can stand up without it getting loose.
