A sole trope occurs when the back of the foot has a small hole in the sole. It looks like someone has painted thin material over the entire foot, except it is not completely removed. The hole is usually around an inch in diameter and extends up onto the back of the foot.
It can be funny or poignant to look at a sole trope as if it were a picture book with only one page missing. You would still have one normal sized foot, but you would have one page missing on each side of the foot!

Determine size of hole
When you buy a new shoe, the size you buy is the size of the shoe.
When you get a new shoes, it must be measured at the point of purchase to determine the size. This is true for shoes, stores, and ship sizes.
When you return your new shoes to the store, they must be measured at that time to determine if it is a fit. It is important to go through this process when you purchase your next pair of shoes.
If your current shoe has a hole in the sole, it may be that this was the case before or when this new shoe was purchased. If there is something noticeable visible through the hole, then there was a reason for buying new shoes!
There are many ways to fix holes in soles of Shoes. These include using band-aids, using hot water soles or wooden platforms to place holes in soles, or using very soft cloths like towels to patch up the sole of the shoe.
Buy a pack of patching material
If you find a hole in your sole slightly larger than ¼ of an inch in diameter, it is time to get some patch material. Many shoe stores now offer a pack of patch material where you can buy two pairs of shoes for $5 or $10 per pair.
You can then have a friend or family member trim the edges of the soles on your shoes, and they will paste them on for you. Or, if you are really lucky, one of the shoes will have a nice thick sole that doesn’t need to be patched.
The best way to use patch material is to wrap it around the bottom of the shoe and push it up around the sole. Then, pull back and slide it over the foot, letting it connect with the shoe.
Look for a similar color material
When your shoe is hole-free, it is possible to keep the same color material in your sole. If you have a black or dark colored shoe, you can use some dark clothing to keep the hole-free status.
Some people like having a difference in color between their shoes and others. This creates more awareness and recognition of your money spent on each shoe you purchase. People may say that you are expensive, but YOU get another pair free!
Using a bit of white paper or a socks removes the risk of any water being absorbtion. If you want to take the risk, then have some safety guards on them to prevent this.
Using some sort of cushioning in place of the sole would also help prevent sharp breaks in the area.
Cut the patching material to size
If the hole is big enough to see through, you can cut the material larger. Same if it is small enough to be unnoticed.
Cut the patching material too small will cause it to pull away from the sole of the shoe, causing a weak spot in the material. This would probably not be a good thing!
Cutting too small will also leave worn places on the shoe, maybe not as noticeable as a bigger hole. These will probably look like empty space since there is no sole left to fill it with.
If you want more thickness in your shoes, then buy more wood or something hard to cut, because then you have more control of what you want thickness into your shoes.
Apply adhesive to hole
Once the piece is cut, it is time to apply the adhesive. There are many brands of glue, and many shapes of adhesive. To help you pick which one to use, see if the glue comes with a brush to apply the glue on top of the shoe.
If not, add some hair spray onto a cloth and brush the sole of the shoe lightly to give it some texture. Now go ahead and fix the hole. If you want to add more color or texture, do it!
Brushes or fingers only? Neither one works better than the other for this task. The glue must take control of where it goes or he will never get it all on.
Place patch over hole
When you purchase your new shoe, make sure that the sole is thick enough to prevent a hole in the shape of the back of the foot. If there is a thin spot, such as in between the back of the heel and front of the heel, then this is the wrong shoe for you.
If there is not a sole, then there are several solutions. First, try a little bit of water soluble glue and see if that works. If so, you have a good replacement solution. Or find another type ofsole that works better.
The second possibility is to find a replacement for natural leather with vinyl or plastic.
Let dry
If you noticed a hole in your shoe’s sole, it is time to let the dry. Most shoes have a lining that protects the foot from wetness and dirt.
If your shoe does not have this lining, then it is time to fix it. A hole in the sole can be caused by a fall, puncture, or tear. If you notice this more frequently, then it is likely that it is getting bigger.
To fix this problem, you must get new soles made. When ordering new soles, make sure to get ones that are hard and durable. They may cost a little bit more, but they will last much longer.
Brush away any excess material
Once your heel is completely supported, brush away any remaining material. This may mean taking off some leather or cotton boot liners, depending on the material.
If your heel is very large or the sole has a hole, you may need to replace it. Some brands do not fit perfectly in those slots in the heel, so it may be replaced.
Replaceable heels are becoming more common as they can be adjusted to fit every foot. This is great! You can now have the same perfect fit every time!
If you have a very soft sole of your shoe, you can sometimes put something under your foot to hold it up. An obvious solution would be to buy new shoes, but maybe also a little bit of training can help fix this problem.
