TV sound systems have slowly evolved over the years, becoming more sophisticated by default. Most recently, TVs have started offering noise reduction features that reduce audio quality when a movie or show is playing, making them more comfortable to sleep with.
With these features, TV sound quality has increased in quality for the same size TV size! This is not the case for all viewers, however. Some people would rather a smaller screen with less sound quality than someone with greater sound quality but a smaller frame who could comfortably put it on bedside-table height.

Plug in cable
When you have your headphones connected, now it is time to connect the vizio tv to them. You can do this by plugging in the headphone cable into the tv’s audio output, and then into the tv’s audio input.
You will need a stereo audio cable with a mini-plug on one end and a headphone jack on the other. If you have a music player or player device, you can use that to connect your headphones to the tv.
If you have no such device, then you can use a straight-up earphone lead with a clip on it to connect the headphones to the vizio tv.
Either way, make sure they are connected properly! If not, expect them to disconnect or lose sound when an application or program requires it.
Play music on phone or computer
If you have a music or phone app, you can connect your headphones to it and listen to them while watching television. You can also use the headphones if you are unable to turn on the mobile device or computer.
Just make sure your headphones are compatible with the Vizio tv’s audio capabilities. Many audio apps will work with televisions due to its ability to upscale sound.
Some apps will not work with headphones as they do not require a sound quality that is seen on the television.
Switch to tv channel
If you are unable to change the volume on your tv due to the headphones not being connected, then you can do two things.
The second option is to switch to a different tv channel. There are televisions that have bluetooth capabilities and they do work with headphones!
Mostly, these televisions have 2-3 channels of audio output. So, if your tv has 4 audio outputs, then you would need to connect all of them!
To change the tv channel, first find the remote control and then click on the middle button that says CHANGE TV CHANNEL. This will take you to a screen where you can select which channel you want to watch!
Then, push and hold down until it says OUTPUT STANDARD AND THEN OUTPUT LEADER.
Find the right port
When connecting your headphones to your TV, you will have to find the right port for the tv. There are two types of ports on a tv: analog and digital.
Analog televisions do not have a digital input, only an analog one. In this case, you will need to use a component cable to connect the headphones to the TV.
If your tv has a component output, you do not need a component cable to connect it to the TV. Instead, use a standard television plug for that.
Plug in cable
Next, you connect the headphones to your tv using the included cable. This cable is about 3 feet long, so make sure you do not lose it!
Vizio recommends using a sound level meter to determine what level of sound your tv can output. If your tv can only output low quality audio, make sure to put more than one end in the headphones to ensure they work.
Headphones are not recommended for watching movies or video while lying on your stomach due to the risk of overheating and failure. Instead, situate them on upright positions with good support such as when studying or when watching media on your tv.
Use the remote to switch to the appropriate input
If you are only going to be able to connect the headphones to a TV, you will need to adjust the input on the TV. There are several ways to do this, but the easiest is to use the remote.
Press and hold both the V-chip and sound/input button on the remote for about a second until it changes color and then release. This will take care of selecting the correct audio source for the TV.
Test both headphones and the TV sound
When connecting headphones to a TV, be sure they are impedance-balanced so they can connect to the TV’s audio jacks. Most headphones are on the large size earpiece with a big space in which to place the ear.
To match up the sound from the TV to the headphones, make sure it is stereo sound and not mono. Also, make sure the color of the headphones and television match up well.
If your TV does not have a audio jack, do not worry about it; you will still be able to connect your headphones! Just make sure that when using them that they are closed or they will just drop out.
Many TVs have a feature called Sound Sync.
Make sure volume is up on phone or computer
If you are using headphones that connect to the tv, make sure the tv is set to the correct audio level. You want the tv to be able to hear you, but your ears have to be able to hear it.
You can test this by turning up the volume on your TV and microphone and watching what you can see. If you can hear yourself and your TV is loud, then you’re good!
If not, take a step down in volume on the headphones or turn down the television speaker or speakers. Make sure you remember to change the headphones or TV settings back to normal after making these changes.
