Curtis Institute of Music is a music college located in Curtisville, New York. It was founded in 1882 by Frank Curtis, who wanted to create a place where talented musicians could develop their skills.
The school currently has a total of five campuses across the United States and Canada: New York City, Baltimore, San Francisco, and Vancouver. All five campuses offer Bachelor’s degrees as well as Master’s degrees. A few of the degrees offered are in music theory, conducting, piano instruction, and organ instruction.
This includes how to work with professors, receive poor grading from them if you do not progress, and how to navigate your life after graduation with this knowledge. Many students go on to have successful careers as musicians.

Cost
At $4,714 for a bachelor’s degree and $5,714 for a music education degree, Curtis is more expensive than Juilliard. However, you will receive a much higher quality education at Curtis than you will at Juilliard.
You will receive a bachelor’s degree from Curtis in music education whereas you would not receive one at Juilliard. You will also receive a music master’s degree from Curtis whereas you would not receive one at Juilliard. You can apply to both schools together, so it is up to you which school you prefer!
Cost is one factor that may affect which school you choose. While some feel that price is an indicator of quality, others feel that quality dictates price.
Curriculum
While both schools offer a broad range of programs, their curriculums differ significantly. Curtis Institute focuses more on musicality, theory, and composition, while Juilliard focuses more on audience participation.
Both schools offer pre-professional and professional programs, as well as post-graduate ones. The difference is that Curtis specializes in musicality and theory whereas Juilliard offers both for the entire population of music students.
The reason for this difference in curriculum is that music was once a universal language that touched people’s lives in different ways. As a result, some people felt the need to attend a school where they could learn how to be artistic and/or individualistic in music.
As we saw earlier with Curtis vs Juilliard, one school can be very good at one thing but not the other.
Faculty
As the highest degree awarded in music, a Bachelor of Music is typically a five-year process. While at the beginning of this process, you spend your time learning about music theory, how to read and compose for music, and how to perform music.
During this time, you are coached on your practice regimen, how to listen and write for performance, and how to present your work. You also take part in formal composition classes that help you craft your work for performance.
After five years of hard work, you receive your degree which is called a Bachelor of Music Arts or Science. This degree can be completed in four years or less with the right effort.
Alumni
Another way to find ways to enjoy your music is by listening to music from past artists. You can listen to their latest songs, or the first one they released, if you are a fan.
Anyone can download Android and iPhone apps that offer interactive listening features, called services. These services include Apple Music, Spotify, and Google Play Music.
Service-based programs work well if you do not want to spend money on new music every month but want more access to new songs and artists. You can set up these apps on your phone or computer and then subscribe to when you feel ready.
The best way to start this process is by finding an album or series of albums that you like a lot and then looking for them online or in the store that have been released recently.
Famous graduates
Curtis is one of the finest music schools in the United States. It was founded in 1882 and opened its doors to students in 1890.
Today, it has a full undergraduate program and a graduate program as well. Both are top-notch programs with world-class instructors.
Its undergraduate program is offered at the main campus in Curtis Place, just off Washington Avenue in the Old Town neighborhood of Philadelphia.
The school also has an off-campus campus facility in Manayunk, where students can continue their education after receiving an undergraduate degree at Curtis. This facility is referred to as The Manayunk School, and it’s located near Manayunk Park. Both campuses have student housing and a professional singing coach, Dr. Dawn Wilson, who runs successful private tuitions at The Manayunk School.
Application process
If you are accepted to Curtis, you will have to go through the application process at Curtis. You must be 18 years or older to apply at Curtis, and you must be accepted at Curtis to continue the application process.
Your first step in the application process is to submit your personal information including your educational history, contact information, and a motivation letter. This includes gathering information on why you want to pursue music education and what your goals are regarding music education.
Then, members of the Curtis Institute community communicate with you about applying. These include faculty members, staff members, and other students who have been accepted into the program. Your motivation letter must be kept in tact while applying so that staff members can contact you if there are any questions about why you want to join Curtis.
Curtis Institute of Music
Curtis is a highly selective college that offers a bachelor’s degree in music performance and an advanced degree in music. The undergraduate program is full, so many choose to pursue the postgraduate program at Curtis.
The undergraduate program requires six years to complete and offers a bachelor’s degree in music performance or musical performance training. The postgraduate degree requires one year of training and can be a master’s or doctoral level.
Post-graduation, you can immediately enter the workforce as you have earned your CCA or CMus. You can also continue your professional development by attending the Curtis Institute of Music Graduate School, where you can obtain a master’s or doctoral degree in music administration or professional music administration.
Both levels of teaching require licensing and certification, making it another area that separates Curtis from Juilliard.
Juilliard School
Although Curtis is more prestigious than Juilliard, both schools offer outstanding music education. Both offer a four-year Bachelor of Music degree, and both have Graduate Year Programs that lead to a Master of Music in music.
Both schools also offer postgraduate degrees such as the Doctor of Music (MD) or the Doctorate of Musical Arts (DM). These degrees may include a specialization in music or not, and may be taken toward a musical or non-musical degree.
The main difference between Curtis and Juilliard is which specialization area you focus on and whether you take the common or advanced level classes.
