Brakes are a critical part of motor vehicle braking. There are two main ways to stop a vehicle – with the tires on the road or in a parking lot. In a lot, you use a specific type of brake called a static brake. In this case, the person behind you controls the movement of the car by applying pressure to the brake pedal.
In front of you, you control the release of pressure with your hand or fingers. The person behind you applies power to the brake pedal to bring the car to a stop. For people riding in vehicles, emergency braking is important so that someone does not have to stop before they get enough traction.
On roads, there are two types of brakes: dynamic and static. Static brakes use friction from the road to maintain contact with the car; while people using wheels on floor must have hands and/or fingers on top of brakes to use them.
This can be useful when going beyond safe stopping distances on foot and into traffic if someone fails to apply their brakes.

Wrench set
If you ride a traditional two-wheeler, you’re probably thinking about maybe buying a wrench set. They’re expensive, but they can make a huge difference in your biking safety.
For example, if you needed to tighten or loosen a nut on your brakes, a good wrench set can take you from zero to hero in seconds. You can get really cheap sets that are not very reliable, or really expensive sets that are overpriced.
In between, you will find some people who do not have the special tools they need and those who spend upwards of $100 on their sets.
The reason they spend so much money on their wrenches is because the ones that come with bike brake sets are not enough of a difference in size.
Brake fluid
When your car has a brake system, you need to change the brake fluid every few months. The reason for this is that the fluid becomes thin with age and it needs to be replaced.
There are two types of brake fluid: DOT (Diamond-Assisted) and ANSI (American National Standard). DOT does not have diamond-like patterned protectors like ANSI, making it not as effective. Also, because it does not have an expiration date, you can buy it new!
ANSI fluid has a one-year expiration date, making it stay fresh for that year. However, if your car has DOT brake fluid installed, then you must also have the same type of fluid installed.
You can purchase new DOT or ANSI brake pads depending on whether you want them soft or hard. If you want more wearing ability than the old ones had, then buy those types of pads.
New brake pads
When the brake pads are wearing down fast, it is time to add new ones. Most manufacturers offer new pads for free when you exchange your old ones in a deal called return policy brake.
This is a great offer because you would have to remove the old pads first, and then you can add new ones. Some companies do charge money to do this, and that is an issue if you are already running low on brake strength.
There are many brands and models of brake pads, so it is not easy to find the right amount of stop for your needs.
New brake calipers
When you change your brake pads or tires, you need new brake calipers. New ones will take your existing brakes and make them more effective!
brake pads vs. brake shoesHow do you tell the difference between new and old brake pads? New ones will have a yellow protective cover on them, which is removed to add new disks or rotors. Old pads may have a black protective cover on them, which is still in place when the pad is added.
New pads will also require new shoes to match. These are usually white with a black outline, which matches the shoes that are placed on top of the wheels. When matching the shoes, make sure they are parallel to the ground so there is no lag in movement.
Tire iron
If you drive a car with front or rear brakes, you know the pain of trying to stop or turn the car when one or both of your brakes are frozen.
It is hard to keep your fingers and hands relaxed enough to apply and remove the brake pressure effectively. With the right tool, you can change your brake pads or even replace your brake system.
One easy way to change the pads is to use a tire iron. You can buy small ones that are designed for gardening tools, large ones that are used for plumbing, and even one that is specifically made for changing brake pads.
You do not need special tools to install new pads though, just make sure they are clean and dry before attempting to put them on. Make sure there are no foreign objects in the system that could cause problems.
Jack set
When changing your brake pads or wheels, you’ll need to remove the wheel or pad. This is done by using a jack set.
To remove the wheel, you’ll need to pry up the rim with a rubber mallet. Then, use a screwdriver or similar tool to create an opening in the rim. You’ll then be able to pull the wheel out.
To install the new wheel, you’ll want to put the same procedure into place. Use four medium-size bolts and washers, plus one bigger bolt and washer to hold in place the new tire. Make sure all four bolts are securely placed before continuing with the installation process.
To install the new tire, use another set of bolts and washers, this time using nut-and-bolt style fasteners.
Wheel chocks
When a brake system is working well, its important tools can help keep it that way. Some of these tools can even prevent you from needing to upgrade your brakes in the future.
When driving at high speeds, the tires need to be protected. These include regular tire pressure monitors, inflation discs, and tread protectors.
Brake chaps are a great way to protect your legs from the rubber on rubber when you use the brakes. They are also nice to have around for personal safety purposes because if you needed to use them quickly, they would be out of reach.

Brake cleaner spray can
A quick and easy tool to change your brake pads is to spray a brake cleaner spray on the outside of your brakes, then wrap both hands around the brake gives and push down on them.

Many brake shops offer this tool, but if you have your own, it is nice to have a brand new one just in case. You can get them at most bike shops though, so it is not a big deal.
