A dog’s poop is a natural and important part of a dog’s life. He or she needs to exercise in the outdoors often, and having a way to eliminate is helpful in this environment.
But when dogs eat their poop, it can lead to health issues such as diarrhea and overgrowth of parasites. Studies have linked diet, or food intake, of poop to inflammation in the body.

Keep your yard clean

Feeding dirt and debris is a part of life for dogs. Sometimes, they even use it for games or training purposes.
While this does not seem like a problem at first, it becomes more of a issue as your dog gets older and more social. For example, the older your dog gets, the more they need to go outside to meet other dogs and the original toilet must be out of commission.
Then, you have a problem: The two-legged one has to deal with all the mess your four-legged friend leaves in his or her territory.
Luckily, there are ways to prevent dogs from eating poop at home. Here are some tricks that can save you from having to haul your little fuzzball out of the house.
Avoid giving your dog sugar
Consuming too much sugar can lead to weight gain and diarrhea. It is important to remember that dogs have their own healthy Sweetness guidelines however, they do not always require it.
Dogs are designed to eat feces. There is evidence of this condition called kukkikukki or doggie stomatitis. It occurs in as few as 1 in 1000 dogs, but still!

If your dog has no trouble cleaning up his or her own mess, it may be that the problem is a dog eating poop.
There are many things that dogs need to learn as they get older. For example, you would need to change the type of food they were fed as they grew.
Some things I recommend looking into is if your dog is panting or drinking when you take them to the vet, because this may be evidence of needing surgery. Or possibly having behavioral issues such as hyperactiveness or aggression.
If there’s evidence of fighting or aggression, then taking your dog to the vet is the best way to resolve it. Luckily, in most cases, the behavior and health issues are linked and can be treated at the same time.
Know the signs of diarrhea
When a dog has a bout of diarrhea, the first sign can be a change in appetite.
Some dogs may show more of an appetite during the daytime or when they are hungry. Others may have more of a decreased appetite.
A lost pet can be heartbreaking to watch struggle with their disease and eat little to no food for several days. Knowing when to seek medical attention is what is most important.
If you notice any changes in your dog’s behavior, seek medical attention immediately. There may be serious health issues involved.

Know the signs of constipation
