Red light camera systems are designed to give drivers a second chance at stopping if they commit a traffic violation. The system will evaluate the image from your car’s front headlights against the image from the rear lights to determine if it has detected a vehicle in the area.
If your car is believed to have committed a traffic violation, an automated message will be sent via your smartphone or email, and you will be given an extra minute to correct your mistake before you are pulled over. You can also request that the officer waive the parking violation if you prove your innocence.
If you commit a traffic violation and it is caught on camera, look for an electronic yellow flashing light next to your windshield that will flash once when activated.

If you get a red light camera ticket, you may be able to have your car’s odometer refilled. Many red light camera companies offer car insurance plans that include a refilled odometer as a feature.
If your vehicle was driving under the speed limit or in an unapproved vehicle configuration, you may be able to have your ticket dismissed based on proof of correction.
If your vehicle was running Challenge Mode or No Speed Limit Mode, your chances of getting a reduced fine are better. The odds are better if you show proof of correction such as the reward program verification email or text message from the cameras.

What should I do if the camera flashed but I stopped?
If the red light camera camera flashed but you stopped, you may have saved your image or footage as a file or phone app that was automatically deleted after the camera processed your image or footage.

What should I do if the camera flashed and I crossed the line?
If the red light camera camera flashed and you were at the intersection or within a few feet of the camera location, you may have stopped infringement. If you were not at the camera location but within a few feet of it, then you may have crossed the line and incurred a citation.

What should I do if the camera flashed and I moved forward?
If the red light camera flashing and camera stopping issue happened due to you moving forward, you should try refreshing your senses by walking away from the device for a few seconds. This should help reset the camera and it will let you continue driving safely.
By going into a different position away from the camera location, you are also resetting the clock on the device. After that time has passed, come back and try driving!
If that does not help, then you may need to contact your jurisdiction’s red light camera company. There may be a fix available, or you may need to take steps towards fixing the issue yourself. Contacting them is probably your next step.
What should I do if the camera flashes late?
If the red light camera system has a problem, it may happen occasionally. Some cameras flashed late or not at all during our testing. If this happens, you can wait a few minutes and then the camera may come on to tell you that you have received a fine.
We suggest testing this later in the week when there are no cameras operating, as some customers might need time to get used to being photographed. It is also possible that the camera will fail to hold a image or detect a fine, meaning you will have to pay again.
This happened twice out of four days during our test period. We are glad that one of those users was able to take pictures with their phone and send them in!
Getting your red light camera fine sent via mail is the next best way to deal with this issue.
Can I fight my ticket?
If you receive a red light camera ticket, you may either defend yourself or let the camera do its work. If you defend yourself, your first step is to determine if the camera captured anything illegal.
If the camera recorded nothing illegal, it will write you a charge for a normal road speed. You will receive a notification via email and/or phone call that you were charged and your total cost will be determined by what the camera recorded.
If the red light camera recorded an illegal signal or violation of your traffic rule, such as running a stop sign or leaving the road after passing a stop sign, then your driver’s license suspension may be reduced or eliminated entirely.

What are my options for fighting my ticket?
First, you can fight your Red Light Camera ticket in court. This is the easiest option and you can do it either in person or by phone. The department cannot contact you unless they send you a ticket.
If you are sent a phone message, then you can easily respond to the camera within a day to take it down. Many do!
If you send mail, then the mail carrier will typically take that into account when deciding if they give you a warning or an citations and fines. Some cities may have your package returned because of invalid postage or something not being delivered so well.
Either way, you must go to court if there is no camera in your area that flashed your window sign! There are two courts in my city: one for traffic violations and one for red light camera tickets.
How do I request a hearing or trial?
You can do this by calling the Red Light Camera Program at (866) 439-7277. You will need your phone number to do this as it is requests within the system.
You can also request a hearing or trial via email at [email protected]. This address may change during your case to reflect your new name and address.
Last, you can go to court via the following website: https://www.santamonicova.gov/court/index/. You will need an internet connection and a browser in order for this to work but it is worth the effort in order to have a chance at having your camera flashed corrected soon!
At court, you will need an attorney if you have one not just yourself because there are instructions at court that do not explain who can represent themselves.
