Step disc golf is a relatively new disc golf style that has gained popularity in recent years. It is characterized by walking or running between two discs and then throwing the disc to start playing.

Unlike many step discs, which are designed for downhill play, these can be used for all types of discs. This one is good for flat, long throws!

We are excited to introduce this new style of step disc golf here at Disc Golf World Headquarters in 2018!

You do not need special equipment to play this mode of disc golf. All you need are two standard sized discs and some sort of course layout to create a course. You can also choose how far you want your throw your disk and how fast!

It is very fun and easy to learn.

Find a disc golf target

When you step off your disc golf course, you’ll want to start looking for another disc golf target. It’s easy to X step on a disc because of your lack of self-awareness.

You can find many targets by walking around neighborhoods or local Disc Golf Tournaments. Most have signs, so you can read them and learn how to X step on a Disc!

X-Steps can happen anytime, anywhere. If you find one that is missing some pieces, it can be built into! Many people add steps to their targets to make it more interesting or challenging.

Start 10 feet away from the target

When you’re ready to try your hand at step disc golf, start about 10 feet away from the target. This allows you time to make your first throw and get your bearings, which is what you do in lawn bowling.

You also have the opportunity to re-throw your first throw if you make a mistake. This is key! You want to be successful on your first throw so that you can continue playing with your group.

This one is pretty simple, but you need to pay attention. If you drop the foot too far away from the other foot, your next step will be to drop the opposite foot.

This can be tricky if you are not used to stepping on your next step. When you do this, keep in mind that the back foot must be on the ground before the front foot can touch down.

X-ing can be done in several ways. You can sit down, like in the x-step. You can hold a practice disc in one hand and walk toward another disc in your hand, like in the two-step X. You can also run with one or two hands, like the three-step X.

To do the two-step X, hold a second practice disc between your index and middle fingers and slide it toward yourself as you walk towards another disc. Alternatively, you can hold a practice disc between both hands and walk with it between them.

The three-step X is more complicated but not impossible.
