iPhone is an outstanding mobile device. It offers many great features, makes and takes requests, and allows you to control your phone like no other.
However, despite its great features, some users have had issues with it. These issues include experiencing Touch ID or requiring a passcode to access it.
This is due to some devices not supporting the right software to fix the issue. If this was the case with your iPhone 7, you would be able to enjoy your new device right away!

Use toothpaste
Use a Q-tip or small towel to gently clean the inside of the home button. Try not doing anything too drastic-you want to make it as smooth and soft as possible!
If you feel confident doing this on your own, then do! It is much easier to purchase a product and have it sent to your house. Many do this by buying a free app from the App Store and placing it on their phone as a “support” tool.
Blow dryer
After taking out the dirt and grease that is causing your iPhone 7 to stop working, the next step is to fix it. Luckily, this issue is easy and cost-effective.
Many people have fixed their iPhone 7 home button using a blow dryer. That is how mine was repaired! Using a blow dryer on high heat will eventually break down the material of the phone and fix it.
As mentioned before, don’t try this if you have a case on your phone as the blow dryer might fall off or be scratched off. It also might affect other cases in the same brand as yours as they may not be made with such strong materials.
Press the button down firmly
When the iPhone 7 has been activated, try pressing the home button again. If it works, then your phone is working properly and you are at the right page!
If it does not work, then try doing this: Open up Settings and look for Messages. If you have any recently received messages, go back to those messages and try sending them again.
If you have missed some calls and/or texts, go back to those as well to see if there was an error in sending or receiving. If still doesn’t work, then we need to fix the phone itself!

Reinstall software
If you’re unable to use your phone or tablet following the above steps, then something may have caused a failure. You can test if this happens by pressing the home button at any time and hearing a click. If that happens, then it works!
If not, then try the next step.
After downloading and installing the software, you will need to put your phone or tablet into download mode by pulling out its battery for about half an hour and doing nothing. After this has happened, go back into the phone or tablet’s settings and select “ sleep / wakeup / turn on / etc.”
Then, after having it in sleep/wakeup mode, you can attempt to fix the button using the above steps.
Reboot device
If that does not work, then the next step is to try to fix the button.
If you are using your phone on a table or in front of a computer, then this is easy. Simply press and hold the power button for at least five seconds and release to attempt a reboot. You should be able to send and receive calls and texts this way!
If you are using your phone mounted or otherwise attached, such as with a case or a belt clip, then first check that it is secure. If so, try removing one side of the safety feature to see if that fixes the problem.
Switch on and off repeatedly
Sometimes, the iPhone 7 home button will stop working. This may happen when you switch on your phone for the first time, after a break or after a nap. After this happens, try switching your phone on and off again to make sure it works again.
If it does not work again, go to an Apple store and have it checked out. It might be a software issue, and you will have to purchase another phone to have this feature installed.

Test other buttons
If your phone has a home button, you can try to fix or replace it. There are many websites that offer parts and services to fix or replace your button.
Many people have theirs replaced with a more modern version of the button. Others have them glued back on. If you have a this, you can opt for an easy glue option that will not ruin the look of your phone.
You can also test other devices on your phone to see if the buttons are broken or not. Try pressing different sensors to see if anything breaks, then contact customer service to have it replaced.
Many people report success using a hair dryer on their phones to heat up the touch components, which may help trigger a response when pressed.
Check for debris under the button
If you can’t find any evidence of a tear under the button, try lifting up the phone to check for debris under the bottom of the phone.
If you can, then check to see if it comes off in dry hands. If so, try replacing it with a new one instead of fixing the button.
Many times, using contact cement or glue will work as a fix for this. Just make sure that it is kept dry while working, and have some extra clothes or something nearby to put over the phone when done.
Another way to fix this is using a case. There are many cases that have coverings that go on top of the home button and give you some security against being able to turn off your phone.
