It was originally released as a beta product in 1997, and was released to the public in 1998. It has remained updated and improved over the years, making it today’s Pro Tools.
Today, Pro Tools has been make available for free as a standalone application as well as part of the Adobe Audition family of apps.

Click the link in your email
After you download Pro Tools, you will need to create an Adobe ID to access Pro Tools. This is different for Mac and Windows users, so look through your emails to see if you have to do it that way.
Once you have your Adobe ID, you can use it to access Pro Tools on your laptop or mobile device. You can also use it to access Pro Tools on your tablet or desktop once you install the app onto it.
Some features of Pro Tools cannot be installed on a laptop or desktop due to their nature. These features must be installed directly on a tablet or mobile device because they require special software requirements. For example, the audio mixer does not work on a desktop because of this rule!
Another feature that is not available on a computer due to its nature is virtual instruments. You can use Pro Tools on both a laptop and a desktop, but there are limitations with each type of machine.
Update your software
Once you have Pro Tools installed, it is time to update your software. The software will need to be installed on your computer in order for it to recognize Pro Tools.
You can do this via the program’s web interface, or via the provided program disk. Both methods are available via the program’s review system as well.

Reinstall or install for the first time
If you already have Pro Tools installed before, you can download it again. You can purchase a new version of Pro Tools for your computer.
You can still go back if something wrong was found, though. You can download the latest version of Pro Tools from their website or from the application store on your computer.
If you downloaded the application file from the app store, make sure that it is activated. If you used an online source, make sure that you have an active account to download software.

Activate using an iLok
Before you can start using Pro Tools, you must generate an iLok code. This is a unique code that allows you to login to your account and use Pro Tools.
To get your code, head to PRO TOOLS.com/i-love-pro-tools and enter your email address to get your code. You can then store it anywhere – on your phone, in a password safe or even on paper.
Once you have your code, go to theAccount tab at the top of pro tools and click on Generate New Code. This will take a little while as it needs to check if you have an iLok account, if you have ordered an iLok kit and if you have already registered an account with pro tools.
