Dry rosemary
A quick, easy way to keep your dog safe is to use dry rosemary. This herb works by preventing the threat of mosquito larvae.
Dry rosemary is very sensitive to water conditions. If you have a water feature such as a fountain or pool, it must be kept immaculately clean to prevent larvae from developing.
To prevent dogs from getting repelled by the herb, try putting a small amount of dried rosemary on your hands and dogs before petting. It may take some time for your dog to get used to this, but it is safer for both of you.
Another way to use dry rosemary is as an inhalant. Place a few drops on your hand and let your dog smell it for contrast.
Dry marjoram

Dry peppermint is your best bet, as the leaves cannot be composted. Instead, they must be kept under a grill or oven until crisp and powdered. Then you can make your own or purchase either mixed in with other herbs or mixed with coconut oil and applied to your dog’s skin.
But why bother? According to Dr. Jennifer Hartmann, author of The Vet’s pet guide, dogs that smell peppermints or colognes are less likely to develop lung disease and infection such as asthma or allergies.
She argues that because dogs do not get their breath through breathing, this is an equally effective way to keep them healthy and alert while doing so.
